about

What's Next finds Arsonist in the aftermath of the flames. Originally questioning what they have done but deciding they will do it again and again until everything feels okay. Arsonist finds out the cancer scare never added up to anything and they weren't dying, but Arsonist realizes while the cancer wasn't real, the feeling of mortality and the urgent need to do something dramatic in life was. And that is something that will always be a driving force, and something that push them forward into searching for hope and happiness from now on. Arsonist knows the consequences of their actions spread far beyond just themself. Arsonist refuses to burn out and carries to fire of their hometown with themself. Ready to ignite again whenever need be. Arsonist asks to find purpose in the ashes.

This song was the last song wrote for the album. I waited until I had actually left Bismarck North Dakota, to write and record the song that closed out the story best. Upon finishing this song the album was done, or would have been if I didn't have to add "As it is lonely" which I will talk about in the about section for that track.
This song was a story of a very defining year of my life. And I felt like I needed to finish the story of that story of my life in order to truly finish this album.
I really lived this entire creative process and it took a lot out of me.
I put myself out on this album.
This song goes into concluding the six month wait for the cancer screening.
I got the results as I was loading the Uhaul to leave for good.
As of today I am cancer free.
I did have to have a small chunk taken out of my arm. I did not heed doctors advice however, the wound looked like it had healed well, and the stitches itched real bad. So I took out the stitches myself a week earlier then reccomended. Of course it opened back up because I am an idiot. And now I have a gnarly scar to show for it.
This song also concludes my feelings about leaving Bismarck for good and finally confronting and getting over my trauamas from my twenty five years spent there.

lyrics

So you burnt the city down
Tell me what's next?
Can you help me find purpose
inbetween the ashes?
You think you had it found out
but it was all in your head.
You could've had it all
but chose to burn it instead
and I've got nine lives
but only one liver
and I've got a good promise
but I can't deliver
and I cut ties like a pair of dull scissors
tried to cut it out my life and just replace it liquor

all I wanted was a smoke
when all this life was a drag
all i wanted for something to tell me it's all okay

so we can replace the bars and churches
with nothing but embers
this place is all but memories
I don't wanna remember
and if it turns out I'm not dying
then this flame goes forever
we can burn down every dead end town
from no place to wherever
and I'll be the greatest arsonist
this world has ever seen
and thinking I was dying
just ignites this gasoline
we created something
bigger than even our wildest dreams
this fire doesn't get put out
it spreads far beyond me

all I wanted was a smoke
when all this life was a drag
all i wanted for something to tell me it's all okay

we don't burn out
we don't burn out
we don't burn out
we don't burn out

all i wanted was a smoke
when all this life was a drag
all i wanted was for something to tell me it's all okay
